Now that the NBA’s regular season is complete we can determine the odds for each lottery team of winning the lottery and obtaining the first pick in the 2011 draft. The annual NBA draft lottery will take place Tuesday, May 17th, as usual. [April 15th] The NBA announced today that they have broken the ties for the upcoming draft. Sacramento won a tiebreaker with LA Clippers; Memphis won a tiebreaker with New Orleans; and Dallas won a tiebreaker with LALakers.
In the case of ties that occur in the lottery, the number of “ping pong balls” each team receives is determined by reassigning the average number of total balls previously assigned to both slots, with the winner of tie-breaker receiving any remainder. Tied teams will pick in the opposite order in the second round (pending lottery ties). These ties taken into account, the rest of the first round will follow this order:
